Teej Festival Tea Towel

Teej Festival Tea Towel

Bring the color and spirit of Nepali festivals to your kitchen with this beautiful printed tea towel!

This is one of a series of towels featuring festivals that are revered by the Tharu people in Central Nepal. It carries images from the Teej, one of the most joyful and colorful Hindu festivals which celebrate womanhood and the divine marriage between the Goddess Parvati and Shiva. The Teej is observed mainly by unmarried women and girls wearing deep red and green sarees.

The images were embroidered by four fiber artists in Bardiya district – Kushma, Kanchan, Geeta and Binita - who lost family members during the conflict in Nepal (1996-2006). The four are members of the Network of Families of the Disappeared Nepal (NEFAD) and have turned to stitching as a form of therapy and source of income. They have formed an association, Bardiya Craft, to produce their embroidery and also offer embroidery training to Tharu women. The towels were designed by Daniela Passos in Brazil.

Profits from the towels will be invested in Bardiya Craft.

These towels can be purchased for $17.50 a towel and $110 for a set of eight.
