Dashain Festival Tea Towel
Dashain Festival Tea Towel
Bring the color and spirit of Nepali festivals to your kitchen with this beautiful printed tea towel!
This is one of a series of towels that feature festivals revered by the Tharu people in Central Nepal. The Dashain is celebrated for two weeks with prayers and offerings to Durga, the Universal Mother Goddess and is also known as the great harvest festival in Nepal. During the Dashain, families meet and share gifts and blessings. As well as dancing and music, the towel shows two siblings exchanging tikas – the sacred Hindu mark placed on the forehead.
The images were embroidered by four fiber artists in Bardiya district – Kushma, Kanchan, Geeta and Binita - who lost family members during the conflict in Nepal (1996-2006). The four have turned to stitching as a form of therapy and source of income and formed an association, Bardiya Craft, to produce their embroidery. They also offer embroidery training to Tharu women. The towels were designed by Daniela Passos in Brazil.
Profits from the towels will be invested in Bardiya Craft.
These towels can be purchased for $17.50 a towel and $110 for a set of eight.
