The Maghi is the most important festival in the lives of the Tharu indigenous people, who live in Central Nepal and features special food, dancing, clothes and music. The man and two women are enjoying the traditional Maghi dance. The man is playing a musical instrument known as the Madal which is covered by a decorative cloth, or Tangi.

Meet the Artist

Sarita was eleven when her father disappeared in Nepal and told his story for the Bardiya Memorial Quilts. Sarita inspired the Nepal embroidery and led the early training. She is a firm believer in using embroidery to empower women.
