Rachel Njorge

Kibera, Nairobi, Kenya

Rachel Njoroge is a single mother living in Nairobi with her three children. In an act of kindness, she also serves as the guardian to her brother’s child, Kylan, who has albinism even though Rachel herself is currently unemployed. Rachel was one of twenty members of the Albinism Society of Kenya (ASK) who received embroidery training in the summer of 2021 to make stories for the Kenyan Albinism Quilts. She used her new skill to produce a somber story of a baby with albinism being sold to a witch doctor. Like other trainees Rachel is grateful to the training for having introduced her to other mothers and hopes to find a market for her embroidery. Eventually she hopes to start a business selling second-hand clothes.
