Maureen lives with her three young daughters in the informal settlement of Kibera in Nairobi, where she works in a market selling vegetables. Maureen turned to embroidery in 2020 when she made a block for the Kenyan COVID Quilts describing how the pandemic had put an end to the physical exchange of money. Maureen enjoyed working with other trainees and was quick to volunteer for more training in the summer of 2022, to make embroidery for this store. She is active in Shield of Faith, an association that formed in 2020 to organize embroidery training and now supports campaigns for social change in Kibera, including composting.
