Harriet Njeri

Kangemi, Kenya

Harriet, 24, lives in the informal settlement of Kangemi, Nairobi where she works odd jobs to support her family. Harriet learned embroidery while producing a powerful block for the Kenyan COVID Quilts in which she described how a mother with disability gets the virus and then infects her whole family. She is grateful to embroidery for having given her a new way to express herself and hopes to make a living as an artist in the future. Harriet is also active in the Kangemi Advocacy and Self Help Group, which formed in 2020 to organize embroidery training and launched a highly successful vaccination campaign in the settlement.
