Florence lives with her 7-year old son in the informal settlement of Kangemi, Nairobi where she works in hospitality. She learned embroidery while making a block for the Kenyan COVID Quilts project which described the lay-offs and unemployment caused by the pandemic. The best part about embroidery, she says, is learning different stitches and helping other women in the group to learn. Florence is also active in the Kangemi Advocacy and Self Help Group, which formed in 2020 to organize embroidery training and launched a highly successful vaccination campaign in the settlement.
