Dorice lives in the informal settlement of Kangemi, Nairobi. She is new to embroidery and received her first training through The Advocacy Project in July 2022. Her giraffe is the first piece of embroidery she has made, let alone offered for sale, and it is of a high quality for a novice! We expect great things ahead as Dorice develops her stitching skills.

Embroidered Blocks

The blocks on this page were made by women and girls from the Global South who have used embroidery to describe their struggle against poverty and discrimination. In the process they have become skilled fiber artists.Click here to view their profiles. The Advocacy Project has supported the artists with advanced training and will continue to provide technical advice to ensure the highest possible quality. Each artist is developing her own unique product and in making a purchase customers are investing in the artist as well as her embroidery. All profits will go to the artists in the different communities. We will be continually adding blocks so check back regularly.
