Catherine Nyambeki

Kibera, Kenya

Catherine lives with her husband and three children in the informal settlement of Kibera, Nairobi. She first made embroidery in 2020 when she described a wedding without guests for the Kenyan COVID Quilts, and went on to stitch a wading crane for the Sister Artists 2 competition which was quilted by Sue Willows Raznikov in California and auctioned. Catherine studied Business Management but has not been able to find consistent employment and does daily work to support her family. She is an active member of Shield of Faith, the women’s association which was formed to facilitate embroidery training and now takes on broader social challenges in Kibera.
