Caroline Barasa

Kangemi, Nairobi, Kenya

Caroline, 45, lives in the informal settlement of Kangemi, Nairobi. She has four children and one grandson and works as a cook at a school to support her family. Caroline produced a powerful embroidered story for the Kenyan COVID Quilts project which described the sharp rise in unwanted pregnancies among young girls during the pandemic. Caroline says that embroidery helps her to focus and clear her mind after a busy day. She is also active in the Kangemi Advocacy and Self Help Group, which formed in 2020 to organize embroidery training and launched a highly successful vaccination campaign in the settlement.
