Caroline lives with her four children in the informal settlement of Kibera where she works as a tailor. She first turned to embroidery in 2019 when she made a story for the Woman’s World Quilt and followed this with a block for the Kenyan COVID Quilts which described the way that houses were locked up by landlords during the pandemic, forcing many people out of their homes. In 2021 Caroline produced a lilac-crested roller for the Sister Artists 2 challenge which was quilted by Linda M Kim in Texas and auctioned. Caroline is grateful to the embroidery project for having introduced her to new friends. She is an active member of Shield of Faith, the women’s association which was formed to facilitate embroidery training and now takes on broader social challenges in Kibera.
